The Village of Rockville Centre was incorporated on July 15, 1893. It was named after community leader and Methodist preacher Mordecai Rock Smith. The first railroad entered the village in 1867 and the first public library was established in 1882. The first high school of South Shore was also built in Rockville Centre in 1892. The Bank of Rockville Centre, which was founded in February 1891, was the first commercial bank that operated on the south shore of Long Island. Rockville Centre, New York, in Nassau county, is 3 miles S of Hempstead, New York and 18 miles E of New York, New York. The village is included in the Nassau- Suffolk metropolitan area. As of the year 2000 census, 24,568 people lived in Rockville Centre.

There are several parks and playgrounds in Rockville Centre where you can spend your free time. Some of these include Hickey Field, Bligh Field and Lister Park. The Valley Stream State Park, Eisenhower Park and Jones Beach State Park are also nearby, in addition to the African American Museum, Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, Queens County Farm Museum and the Cradle of Aviation Museum interesting.
